After practising Yoga and meditation since my early 20s, I decided to become a Yoga teacher, learning from the source. I took my yoga teacher training in India in 2012. My master, Lalit Kumar, was initiated by Swami Veda Bharti the disciple of His Holiness Swami Rama of the Himalayas.
My Yoga teaching style blends traditional Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga, Hatha yoga with Iyengar alignment techniques. I also teach Yin Yoga and Meditation and Mindfulness. I place a strong focus on physical adjustments to improve alignment through a precise yet dynamic practice.
My training in India included Anatomy and Physiology, Ayurveda, Pranayama, Yoga Asana, Meditation, Adjustments, Alignment, Modifications and Yoga philosophy.
Yoga to me is an important tool to achieve physical and mental wellbeing. It’s more than just exercise. It’s about learning to meditate and concentrate in the present moment. It’s about having healthy habits and being kind with ourselves and others. Yoga is about harmony, internally an in our environment.
A teacher needs to be adaptive. Each day students enter the classroom with different needs, moods, and preoccupations. Some are auditive learners while others might be kinetic or visual. My yoga teaching style addresses all these needs and I always strive to establish a good mood in the classroom, bringing along a bit of fun and lightness.
Furthering my studies, in 2015 I started my Ayurveda Diet and Life Style and Ayurveda Therapies diploma course with Dr Deepa Apté at the Ayurveda Pura academy.
My Ayurveda training in London with Dr Apté was vast and in-depth. Dr Apté is the director of Ayurveda Pura and her qualifications include: MBBS (India), YLA, BYV, ITEC, MICHT is a fully qualified Indian medical doctor (Bachelor of Medicine; Bachelor of Surgery, India), a qualified Yoga teacher (specialising in Hatha Yoga and the Sivananda tradition) and a qualified Ayurvedic practitioner. As a former external Examiner for a Masters degree accredited by Middlesex University, she also an Executive Director of the APA’s (Ayurvedic Practitioners Association).
The Ayurveda studies included the history of Ayurevda its objectives and the principles as a holistic healing system. The three Doshas and their relationship with anatomy and physiology according to Ayurveda. The five elements theory and their relationship with the macro & micro cosmos. The body constitution, as per the original or balanced one, the person’s Prakriti and the current or imbalance, their Vikriti.
As an Ayurveda Practitioner, I help people find their own way to stay healthy, regain health if it’s been lost and find ways to rejuvenate. The Ayurveda treatments are relaxing and work on a physical and energetic level.
The diagnosis methods are through: interview, pulse and tongue reading and observation.
I am a creative and driven person, with excellent observation skills and a passion for communications. I have a newsletter that I send to my students and clients to help further their Yoga practise and explain the more intricate parts of yoga that might be lost on an exercise class. I also include Ayurveda tips and discussion subjects.
