Awaken Your Body with Sun Salutations

Welcome to Day 2 of the Yoga Advent Calendar!

Yesterday, we began this journey by focusing on gratitude, creating space for joy and abundance in our hearts.

Today, we’re taking things one step further—literally!—by moving our bodies and connecting with our breath through Sun Salutation A (Surya Namaskar A).

Why Sun Salutations?

Sun Salutations are a foundational sequence in Yoga. They’re a dynamic flow of poses that warm up your body, stretch key muscle groups, and calm your mind.

But they’re more than just physical movement. Each breath and motion is an opportunity to reset your focus and bring yourself fully into the present moment. Sun Salutations are a beautiful way to greet the day, cultivate gratitude, and honour the life-giving energy of the sun.

Your 15-Minute Morning Routine

Yesterday, you received your Geny’s Morning Yoga Checklist as part of the advent calendar.

This simple 15-minute routine is your daily guide to creating energy and balance.

Today, we’re diving into the heart of that routine: Sun Salutation A.

To help you get started, I’ve created a quick video that breaks down the sequence step-by-step. You’ll find everything you need to flow through this practice confidently.

  2. Upward Salute: Inhale and stretch your arms overhead.
  3. Forward Fold: Exhale, hinging at your hips, and fold forward.
  4. Halfway Lift: Inhale, lengthen your spine.
  5. Plank Pose: Exhale and step back into a strong plank.
  6. Chaturanga (Low Push-Up): Lower your body with control.
  7. Upward Dog or Cobra: Inhale, lift your chest and open your heart.
  8. Downward Dog: Exhale, lift your hips to the sky.

  10. Forward Fold: Exhale and release.
  11. Upward Salute: Inhale, rise with arms overhead.
