Chair yoga classes are effective workouts that can be done in a chair to regain mobility and energise yourself or just maintain good health wherever you are.
In Yoga, we address the body as a whole. I share my knowledge of anatomy and alignment so that each area in the body can be targeted. A 30-minute chair yoga session can give similar results of doing a much longer workout.
The first step is to focus on the breath. Even if you cannot do anything else, breath control, which we call Pranayama in Yoga, is a gateway to accessing your sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous system. Pranayama can be done seated or laying down.
The chair in seated yoga is just a prop, as it is a belt or a cushion. We also use belts and blocks or books to support the body.
This class is suitable for anyone, young or old, fully able or with special requirements.
