Find Your Calm: The Power of Mindful Breathing

Day 3 of the Yoga Advent Calendar – Mindful Breathing

The holiday season is here, and with it comes a whirlwind of activity—shopping, planning, and endless to-do lists. Amidst the hustle, it’s easy to lose touch with ourselves. But what if there was a simple way to pause, reset, and reconnect?

That’s where Mindful Breathing comes in.

What is Nadi Shodhana?

Today’s practice is Nadi Shodhana, or alternate nostril breathing, a Yogic technique designed to balance the body and mind. Its effects are subtle yet profound, helping you cultivate calm, clarity, and a sense of groundedness.

Benefits of Nadi Shodhana:

  • Reduces stress and anxiety.
  • Balances the left and right hemispheres of the brain.
  • Enhances focus and mental clarity.
  • Promotes better sleep and relaxation.

How to Practice Nadi Shodhana

  1. Sit in a comfortable position, with your spine tall and relaxed.
  2. Close your eyes and take a few deep breaths to settle.
  3. Use your right hand:
    • Close your right nostril with your thumb and inhale deeply through the left nostril.
    • Close your left nostril with your ring finger, release the thumb, and exhale through the right nostril.
  4. Inhale through the right nostril, close it and exhale through the left.
  5. Repeat this cycle 5–10 times, moving at a natural pace.
