New to Yoga? All you need To Know before you join!

Starting something new can be daunting, but if you look around there is always help at hand!

Geny’s Yoga class in Bromley, at the St Peter’s and St Paul’s Lounge Hall, is not at a gym or a yoga studio, so some things will work a little differently, but it is gonna be so much fun! I will be with you every step of the way.

If you are interested in joining my independent yoga classes do email me on geny@cheyoga.co.uk

What To Wear

Wear loose comfortable layers. Come in clothing that won’t restrict movement or breathing and, if you want, bring a blanket, as body temperature will cool during relaxation periods and it’s nice to be cosy. The room is very warm anyway, but we need to learn to regulate our own temperature and be comfortable.

Bring socks but be prepared to work barefoot Shoes will be left at the back of the room.

What To Bring

The halls that CheYoga is hiring for the yoga classes, have no yoga equipment. You need to bring your own mat , this is essential (although I will always have a couple to lend if necessary). If you are not sure you want to invest in a mat yet, the floor is carpeted a beach towel will also work.

If you have one, feel free to bring a block, a cushion and/or a blanket.

Please arrive 5-10 mins before the start of class and come with an empty stomach, 3-4hrs after a main meal, 2hrs following a light meal.

The goal of yoga is not just a physical one, but one of a union of body, mind and spirit.

Always remember that yoga is non-competitive and bear the following guidelines in mind whilst practicing.

Ahimsa – Non-Violence– work abiding this rule, non- violence to your body and mind, be kind to yourself and never do anything that hurts, physically, or even if it just doesn’t feel comfortable. Know that at any time during class you can simply come out of a posture and simply rest in a way that feels right for you.

Acceptance – Of Yourself And Others– we are all different and we ourselves will vary from class to class, honour that and work with it .

Guidance – let your breath guide you, tune in to your breath and let it move you, be aware of your own uniqueness .

Inform –the teacher of any injuries/conditions that may have changed, either at the start of class or by phone or email.

And last but not least…..

Enjoy! – enjoy your yoga, allow it to be time just for you and relish in it!

Please do ask me if you have any questions at any time.
