Yoga can meet you just where you are

Yoga is not about whether you can touch your toes or stand on your head. Yoga can be done by anyone that makes a conscious commitment to move with awareness using their own breath.

Chair Yoga is a great tool to get moving safely. It is a gentle way to welcome back your healthy movement, healing, strength and joint mobility.

When we practice Yoga we work beyond the body we can see and know. According to the yoga tradition we have an energy body underlying our physical one. The energy body one that is never harmed by the outer body becoming weak, sick, or injured – even from loss of limbs.

On my chair yoga classes I teach effective workouts that can be done in a chair or on the floor to regain mobility and energise yourself.

In Yoga we addresses the body as a whole. I share my knowledge on anatomy and alignment, so that each area in the body can be targeted. A 10 minute chair yoga session can give the results of doing a much longer workout.

The first step is to focus on the breath. Even if you cannot do anything else, breath control, which we call Pranayama in Yoga, is a gateway to accessing your sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous system. Pranayama can be done seated or laying down.

The chair in seated yoga, is just a prop. We also use belts and blocks or books to support the body.
